Giordano Dance School was founded 53 years ago by the late Jazz Legend

Gus Giordano. Gus felt that Evanston was the perfect place to raise a family, and knew the community would benefit from a local dance school.  By offering wonderful classes in many levels, the school began to grow.  His wife Peg, took care of the office while Gus taught classes and shared his Giordano Technique with Chicago.

With the his creation of the Giordano Jazz Dance technique, Gus helped define the style of Jazz Dance.  He was one of the first to organize and provide specific terminology, to this popular movement.  His book,

The American Anthology of Jazz Dance contains all the elements of his

dance technique as well as a history of jazz dance.

Gus traveled to many area schools teaching ballroom classes.

He felt strongly about the social aspect of this style of dance.

Many parents and grandparents of our students

remember when Gus taught them social dance at their Junior High Schools.

Today, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago is world renown for it’s powerful, exciting, uplifting dance pieces, performed by incredible technical dancers.

They rehearse in the same building you take class in!  Maybe you can catch

a glimpse of company rehearsal someday.

Nan Giordano is now the Artistic Director of the company. Her moving choreographic works are favorites among the repertoire of the company.

Many company members are teachers at Giordano Dance School.
