CLASS DESCRIPTIONS & LEVELS
LEVELS - Students should expect to stay in each level a
minimum of 2 years, progress is monitored by faculty
Classes contain appropriate material for the specific level of students.
We do not base our classes on ages of students
but place them based on their dance level.
The school reserves the right to place a student in the
appropriate level at any time
I - Some prior training
II - 3-5 years of prior training
III - Minimum or 5 years of prior training
IV - Advanced level
V - Professional level
ACROBATICS - Develop agility, muscle control, balance and grace. Students will increase the development of their athletic performance and flexibility while learning vital components to proper gymnastics techniques.
ACRO/TAP - (ages 5-7) Learn fun tumbling moves and increase flexibility, then put on your tap shoes and learn sounds and rhythms with your feet!
BALLET - Basis of all dance, flexibility and fluidity are encouraged as strength is built. Founded in the french court system in the 17th century, this structured form of dance is graceful and elegant.
BALLET/JAZZ - (ages 5-7) Learn the graceful, strong movements and basic positions of ballet and then jazz it up with fast fun jazz moves and combinations.
BALLET/TAP - (ages 5-7) Learn the graceful, strong movements and basic positions of ballet and then put on your tap shoes and learn sounds and rhythms with your feet!
BARRE PAR TERRE - Ballet barre executed on the floor to establish technique and placement - open to all levels.
BASIC TUMBLING - This class will teach children age 5-8 the fundamentals of gymnastics. Not only will they learn acrobatic discipline by they will increase their flexibility, coordination and build physical strength.
BOYS ONLY HIP HOP - Boys have a great time learning fun urban street moves to their favorite songs! No dance training needed to take this exciting class. Wear comfortable street clothes and clean gym shoes. Come learn cool hip hop dances with Mr. Craig!
HOMER BRYANT FLOOR BALLET - Perfected by Homer Bryant, this amazing class focuses on body alignment and strengthening on the floor.
HIP HOP - Urban, street dance mixed with popular music - open to all levels.
GIORDANO JAZZ TECHNIQUE - Isolations, floor work, combinations, across the floor - The Giordano Technique was developed over 55 years ago by the late Gus Giordano and is known and studied throughout the world. His style is now carried on by his daughter Nan Giordano artistic director of Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago Company and the many gifted teachers at Giordano Dance School.
LA HIP HOP - A perfected style of this popular urban street dance. Open to all levels.
LEAPS AND TURNS - Learn tips from a pro to improve your leaps and turns that can be used in other technique classes.
LYRICAL - Fusing the stylized and seamless movements of jazz with the elegance and grace of ballet.
MINI MOVERS - (ages 2-3 years) Introduce your little one to the wonderful world of dance and movement.
MODERN - This style explores one’s relationship to the floor with and range of motion. Increase flexibility using different tempos, isolations, shapes, and expressions.
MoPeD® - Founded by Ronn Stewart, is a cutting-edge approach to movement and body awareness, no front or back and no steps to learn. It’s a fun aerobic improv session mixed with a twist of experimental anatomy. The goal is to encourage more people to dance and gain the benefits of thoughtful movement without the fears of retaining choreography of following along. The experience is like a dance party with yoga undertones. More People Dancing “Join The Movement!”
MUSICAL THEATRE - Learn the dances from musicals like High School Musical, Singing in the Rain, Cats,
West Side Story, and more.
PILATES/YOGA/CORE/FUSION - The core is your foundation for all movement. Strengthen your core and all other aspects of fitness will follow. Yoga improves strength and flexibility in the body by mastering your mind and breath. In this class you will sculpt your middle, strengthen your body and mind, and push yourself to new limits. This class brings you the best from pilates and yoga to tone, stretch, and strengthen. Wear comfortable clothing and bring your yoga mat. Be ready for a creative, fun, workout! No experience required.
PRE DANCE - (ages 3-4) Young ones love moving to the music while developing dance skills.
POINTE - Teacher permission required to join this class. Pointe is the study of a very advanced form of ballet using specific shoes which allow the female dancer to rise up “en pointe” to the tips of her shoes. Dancers must be taking 2 or 3 ballet classes a week and must be working at an advance level. Dancers must attend a ballet class immediately prior to the pointe class that day.
TAP - Rhythm and sound are explored using tap shoes. Get your feet moving!
TAP BEATS - (ages 8+) Beginner level tap class for children.
TAP JAMZ - (ages 10+) Advanced level tap class for children.
TAP/JAZZ (ages 5-7) Jazz it up with fast fun jazz moves and combinations then put on your tap shoes and learn sounds and rhythms with your feet!
THEATRE DANCE - Designed for performers with fundamental dance training to build their vocabulary of Broadway Jazz Styles. Perfect for actors or singers who want to build their Theatre Dance skills. Learn choreography from Fosse, Robbins, and Bennet - as well as contemporary audition repertoire. Taught by Christopher Perricelli.
